How to buy luxury for less!

Buckle up ladies and gents, today I’m going to take you through my addictive journey of purchasing pre-owned or pre-loved luxury items. Because if you didnt know already, it’s one of the best ways to save literally HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of dollars on luxury handbags and accessories.

It all started with a bag – The Louis Vuitton Montsouris MM

So, what’s the story you ask?

To be honest it’s pretty simple – It was love at first sight. I remember first getting a glimpse of it when a girl was riding down the street with her what looked like a vintage louis vuitton backpack and I almost drove my car off the road because it instantly caught my eye! Never did I think at that moment in time that I would actually ever come to owning it myself!

Fast forward to the day I bought my first Louis Vuitton – which as you guys know was the Louis vuitton speedy 30 in the monogram from the Melbourne Collin St Boutique. It was an absolute dream come true and from that day I was hooked! Lets be honest doing my research on purchasing my first LV I had by that point watching a 1001 videos on Louis Vuitton, and Queen of LV herself Jerusha Couture was a huge influence on me. I was basically obsessed with her videos, and finally I stumbled upon the Louis Vuitton Montouris MM that was in the background of her video. Instantly like before it immediately caught my eye and that started the hunt for this bag!

Of course this bag was discontinued which I did not realise at the time, and the only real choice I had was to actually purchase it second hand! I looked to ebay after so much research and to be honest my first search proved to be quite fruitless. It took about 2-3 months of searching online before I finally stumbled upon this baby. Now mind you I had only just SPLURGED on my brand new LV, so being a junior doctor at the time I was tight on cash. There was no way I could afford anything more than $1000AUD.

When I first saw the item listen on ebay it looked to be in REALLY good condition, and even patina was one of the most crucial things I was looking for. I contacted the seller, and being my first pre-owned LV I was relentless! I requested pictures of the bag with the seller’s name written on the piece of paper next to it, I asked the seller for a million and one detailed pictures, her whole life story on the bag, I then authenticated on the purseforum, and again through a third party. I did not want to make ANY mistakes in possibly purchasing a fake second hand item!

Then the bag arrived.

She was perfect – but still I had it authenticated again once it was in my hot little hands. And finally, when I was satisfied I carried her without end. I remember I was so pedantic about the patina and making sure I wore long sleeves so that I didn’t stain the straps with sweat marks… all the while admiring how beautiful she was. And to this day, it is still one of my most perfect, most wonderful, pre-owned purchases I have made.  I think I appreciate it even more now with how much I was able to get the bag for and the condition it’s in considering how backpacks (even pre-owned) have soared in prices since becoming trendy again the most recent years.

Believe it or not guys, I was able to purchase the bag for only $650 AUD! HOW INCREDIBLE IS THAT!

If you can only believe that I have this gorgeous piece of LV history, an amazing vintage piece from 1996 for a fraction of a backpack costs in stores now. Its absolutely incredible. And if you follow me on my blog/instagram/youtube you would know that this isn’t the only incredible find I’ve found! I’ve got a video here which goes through my favourite pre-owned finds, and if you havent checked it out already I STRONGLY urge you do so!

So that is my one huge tip for saving – GO TO THE SECOND HAND MARKET! So many times many of them aren’t even that worn or used, so many times people resell because they’ve changed their minds and you’ve essentially saved hundreds of dollars on a brand new item! I personally love the more older vintage pieces, especially those that you just can not find anymore. So if this has inspired you, I really hope you go and check out my videos on how to purchase preloved (PART 1 & PART 2), and give it a like a share it around.

If you have any amazing stories on your favourite pre-loved/pre-owned piece or a score so good you need to share – please comment in the discussion below I would love to hear!

The Leather skirt

Ah the leather skirt. It’s such a staple in my wardrobe collection and I’m always on the look out for that one perfect skirt. Being only 152cm it’s always a struggle to fine good fitting bottoms, and the leather midi skirt is no exception. I have love this one particular one from ASOS though and I absolutely love bringing it out every spring/autumn. Its a little bit to long so believe it or not I have actually rolled it at the top, but it has everything else in a skirt I love – leather, split front, and pencil style.

My favourite way to style this is really casually for that Parisian-chic look. This ensemble of sweatshirt + leather skirt is a classic combination for me and one that I reach for time and time again when I want to wear my leather skirt but don’t know how to style it. If you haven’t tried it yet, DO IT. You may never want to take it off!

You can jazz up the outfits by wearing some bling-bling earrings like I have, and even wear some stiletto pumps & structured blazer to make appropriate for a night out/dinner. Alternatively wear white converse/hoodie to make it even more casual for an errand day. It’s a great base to start building on. What do you guys think?

NEW IN: LADY DIOR

Welcome back to my blog guys! Today I’ll be sharing with you one of my favourite pre-loved purchase to date, and that is the amazing LADY DIOR! If you’ve come here from my YouTube channel – welcome! But if you’ve come here through google or elsewhere you’re probably wondering HOW I managed to score this gorgeous piece for THOUSANDS less than retail!

Simple answer: Buy Preloved!
Lady Dior handbags are one of the best handbags to purchase second-hand because of it’s lower resale value on the preowned market.

I know that buying secondhand is not for everyone, and if you want me to do a more step-by-step process on how to buy second-hand or how to authenticate bags, let me know.

But today I just wanted to supplement my YouTube video with some detailed pictures on this bag just to show you that preowned/second-hand bags DO NOT have to be in rubbish condition or very worn condition to still be sold at a great price point.

The process

As you guys know I’m a massive fan of pre-owned bags, and when I browse preowned websites I have previously noticed how poorly Dior bags resale for. For that reason alone, I had never really thought about adding it to my collection. Until that is, I tried it on in store. Its was gorgeous. At the time I tried on the new model in the new size and wide strap. I loved it, but when I went to enquire about it I was told it was $7000+ AUD! That was crazy to me, and for that price I would much rather buy a chanel! I remembered then that Diors sold for crazy less on the second-hand market so I did proceed to my favourite online consignment seller – Ebay. I basically stalked this bag until I found one that I wanted and then made the purchase!

The cost.

So if you follow me on my YouTube channel you would know that I was able to purchase this for approx $1500 AUD! That’s not including tax or duties, but come on! That is only a FRACTION of what it retails for in store! Now for any items over $1000 AUD you do have to pay tax + duties on top which is approximately 15%. Luckily Ebay was having 10% off at the time so I was able to add some savings onto that. Regardless for an all leather bag, and decent condition, I honestly couldn’t be happier with a $1.5K price tag! I did purchase from a Japanese consignment seller that had good feedback, and prior to purchase I did actually have it authenticated on the purseforum which is a great resource for anyone looking to purchase second-hand bags!

The condition.

As you guys know with vintage pieces you do need to be wary of the wear and tear. The bag was almost 20 years old and to be honest the condition is AMAZING. Granted the cannage quilts aren’t as puffy as a brand new one – but everything else was great! It was clean, no musty odour, the gold hardware was still a bright yellow gold, and it was still in great shape! You do have to be careful when buying lady diors second-hand I have found that there are some older pieces in terrible condition! Obviously it’s completely up to you with what you can afford, but I felt like one of the selling points of this dior bag was structure so I knew that this was something I didn’t want to compromise on. I should note that my bag also didn’t come with a dust bag/box/authenticity. For me this dior wasn’t a holy grail and really I just wanted to try it out. For that reason I was happy to trade the extras (such as box, dustbag, cards) for some savings on the bag. There was another bag in similar condition with all the extras for $500AUD more – I decided paying $500 for a cardboard box was not worth it and skipped on it.

The first impression.

If you couldn’t tell already, I’m pretty much over the moon about this bag. It is the exact reason I stress to everyone how amazing buying second-hand can be! I just saved myself THOUSANDS of dollars going pre-owned route, and I have this amazing vintage bag to show for it. Now not only have I not splurge money that I can now save for something else, having a “used” piece means I can wear it without being too worried about wear & tear or damaging the bag. I can just enjoy it, and brag to everyone at how I was able to score this for an amazing price!

So there it is guys, if you haven’t seen the my YouTube video yet please check it out below!

City Camo

As I’ve mentioned time and time again, I’ll miss Adelaide’s picturesque city sidewalks. This month has been so busy, and I apologise for that! If you watched my recent Q&A, you may know that I’ve been busy prepping for an exam. Thankfully that’s all done, but now moving onto the next job – and that’s moving out.

I’ll be moving to Brisbane start of next month, so it’s going to be another busy month unfortunately. I also want to start my blog sale soon, so stay tuned for that. If I’m organised enough, I hope to have it up by tommorow/day after. So stay tuned everyone!

Meanwhile, here are some photos from when the weather was a little cooler, featuring one of my favourite bags – the ever so cute Alma BB in Damier ebene. Isn’t she the cutest! I tend to wear her more during spring/summer for some reason, and I love how she looks with neutral tones.

My blog posts are all over the place lately, and I’m so sorry about that. I’m trying to stick to my schedule of posting every Monday + Friday, but thats clearly gone out the window. Partly to blame is the fact that I’m currently trying to study for an upcoming exam, and whilst I have a few days of study leave I’m trying to cram up to 10 lectures a day… not really possible.

So I have been meaning to post this look for weekssss now,  and yes, thats exactly how far advanced I am with photos, and if you follow me on instagram you would have already seen sneak previews of this look.

I love how this look/shoot turned out, and I honestly had to painstakingly go through literally hundreds of photos! I’ve tried to narrow it as much as  I can, but forgive me if it’s still an overwhelming amount of photos of me! ahaha.

In this look I’m wearing one of my favourite layering pieces of all time – my shaggy/teddy/rug cream gillet or vest. I purchased this little number from H&M many moons ago, and I love layering it over pants, over skirts, dresses – and I ever layer it over a cardigan to turn it into a coat! In this outfit I’ve chosen to my (one of my many) pair of culottes from topshop, and to keep things simple have just worn a plain white shirt underneath. My reflective sunglasses from cotton on give this outfit a nice pop of interest and complements the gold accent from my LV bag nicely. Of course since everything was pretty neutral, I chose an LV monogram print bag as it would pop really nicely!

And on that note, I thought I would include a little review here about the Pochette Metis as some of my viewers were curious as to why I did not include it as part of my recommended 1st designer handbag.

The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis

So I dont want to ramble on too much about this bag – if you want a separate review video on wear & tear and thoughts let me know – but as I’ve said some people where curious why I did not feature this on my recent video. The reason being folks is when I think about my first designer handbag (or atleast in my case), I think about a forever bag – in style, in function, in durability and in price point. I want it to be a all-rounder. Now I did not chose to include the Pochette Metis mainly because of all of the problems associated with this bag in the early stages, and also the trendy nature of the bag. I don’t see it as a classic piece just yet, and there have been enough problems brought up about this bag that I refrain from recommending it as a first designer bag. That isn’t to say that every PM has inherent construction problems, because if you look after your bag well, it shouldn’t! But if I had this bag as my first item and I ran into glazing problems or cracking problems right off the bat – I would just not be happy at all!

Now that isn’t to say I wouldn’t recommend this bag at all – because I do! Its a beautiful bag that offers a lot of functionality and versatility, and it’s easily one of my favourite bags from Louis Vuitton. But for reasons I mentioned above, I refrained from recommending it as a first designer piece – and I stress on the word first – because to me, that first bag shoulde the be-all and end-all… and I just don’t feel like this bag is quite there!
