Working from home with Everlane

Thank you Everlane for sponsoring this post.

Working from home – The new norm?

So I know were are all in a weird place at the moment, with the Coronavirus *Pandemic* amongst us… and a lot of us have had to work from home. While some can accept this news better than others, for some working from home can start to look like a never-ending week in pajamas and sweats. Worse when it’s juggling kids being in the home, and worse still if you’re a single individual with no home company. HOWEVER, working from home doesn’t have to mean giving up all routine, and all style and going insane. Nope! Today I have partnered up with Everlane to keep you fashionable, comfortable, and get through each week working at home and staying at home during this corona social-distancing era!

So what is / who is Everlane you ask?

Now I’m sure many of you have heard of this brand once or twice before. If you haven’t, I feel truly honored to be the person introducing you to this brand! Why? Because they’re a company I’m so proud to stand behind, a brand that has quintessentially become synonymous with the term “sustainable fashion”. Say it with me kids! Sustainable fashion!

So everyone knows about fast fashion and how it’s not the best… but does anyone know the solution? Everlane has done all the work, to make sure they are an easy solution. They are about creating timeless pieces that you can wear over and over again and feel proud to wear because it’s not made in a sweatshop factory on minimum wage and contributing to the pollution and waste of this planet.

Now I’m no martyr for sustainable fashion. And I fall into the trap of fast fashion all the time… buying pieces that will last a couple of washes, and having to buy multiples of items I desperately love just because I know that it will not last the wear. But as we find ourselves in an interesting time where coronavirus has significantly affected the economy, perhaps now more than ever it’s time to start thinking about sustainable fashion.

Everlane is all about being radically transparent. They find the best factories that are audited for their compliance in fair wages, reasonable hours and environmental impact. They source quality material and invest in timeless pieces that you can wear day in, day out, without worries about durability or the pieces going out of fashion. Finally, Everlane is one of the very few companies that are not only transparent in where and how the product is made, but also in the how much. Everlane gives you a complete breakdown of the cost of each product. From the materials to the wages, to delivery, to stamp duty, to their profit. It’s all there. And if you don’t agree with the cost? They sometimes even give you the option of chosing how much you think the item is worth and you choose what you want to pay!

Not bad hey?

And even now in this COVID pandemic, everlane is clear on how it’s helping it’s people and the spread of the virus. To see their reponse please check this page out.

So back to reality – How to work from home?

So for the foreseeable future, working from home may be more permanent than we think. Unfortunately, I do not have this luxury being a doctor and having to work at the frontline of all this pandemic. (So think yourself lucky!). Here are some of my tips for working from home, and outfit choices to go along with them.

DAY 1 – MONDAY

Start the week off strong.

I genuinely feel like Mondays are always the hardest. The beauty of working from home, however, is that now there isn’t that awful Mondayitis feeling. But, to start the week right, I think it’s important to get up at your usual hour, get dressed and get ready like you’re going to work. Starting Monday with this mind frame will get you starting each week right. Put on your most corporate / most work-appropriate outfit, and hit the workday hard to get as much work done as possible.

Outfit Details

Sweater + button up combo is my typical workwear outfit. This outfit is a super comfortable way of starting out your week, and the 40 hour flat will honestly get you through 40 hours of work. They are an absolute dream to wear and the nude/taupe colour is perfect with any outfit.

DAY 2 – TUESDAY

Maintain the momentum, but give yourself breaks.

When you’re working from home you can be tempted to sleep in a little after a full on day… and this is ok! But don’t sleep in until midday. Start possible an hour later, or give yourself an extra break during the day. A good tip would be to time a coffee break with a friend who is also working from home via phonecall or skype. This way you stay on-track, and have something to look forward to after a solid few hours of work.

Outfit Details

This outfit features one of my absolute favourite pieces from Everlane and that is their cashmere collection. If I could, I would honestly get it in every colour. This top is perfect as a casual top during the day with jeans or layered over a button-up top with slacks for work, or with dress pants and heels for night. I wore the same chinos as yesterday (because why not? no one will know!) and these white sling backs give the outfit that pop of “freshness”.

DAY 3 – WEDNESDAY

Go outside, get some freshair. Change things up.

Happy hump day! It’s Wednesday! So you’ve done two days of productive work… well done! If you have the luxury (we dont atm) I would recommend going outside to do some work. Right now in Australia all cafes are closed, so that really isn’t an option. However, I think if you have a veranda or a little courtyard, take yourself outside and get some fresh air. As long as you practice social distancing, I think going to a park and sitting on a bench to do some work for a couple of hours will be fine. I’ve decided to throw on a blazer to maintain that “work” corporate vibes to keep me on track.

Outfit Details

Can I just say…This blazer. is. everything. If you are looking for the perfect blazer, look no further. It’s lightweight for spring and summer, but still warm enough for cooler nights and days. I’m a HUGE fan of an oversized blazer and this one I’m sure I’ll get so much wear out of. I’ve kept it as an all-black outfit with the cashmere tank I’ve already raved about, and these incredible leggings which I’ll talke about in just a little while… 🙂

DAY 4 – THURSDAY

Take a mid weekday off.

Thursday is routinely my day off, and thankfully when working from home this can be scheduled whenever you want! Take this time to do some yoga / excercise / catch up on some online recreation. It’s so important to make sure you keep your mental wellbeing and look after yourself. If you’re with your family at home, perhaps this day off for family time. Watch a movie with everyone, do a puzzle, play board games. Being at home means you don’t have to wait for the “weekend” to come to do these things. Change things up and have a mid weekday off!

Outfit Details

So let me tell you about these leggings. They’re the perform leggings, and they truly do perform. They’re tight and flattering, without being uncomfortable. They’re squat proof which means you can actually wear them for yoga, and lastly, they come in ankle length! To my fellow petite girls out there, Everlane has you covered!! Today’s outfit is totally chill and relaxed, perfect for lounging at home.

DAY 5 – FRIDAY

Keep a clean work environment

I think that when working at home, it’s important to keep some areas sacred. For me that’s the bedroom. If I work in my bedroom I always find I get so easily distracted with my makeup, with decluttering or just straight-up procrastinating on Instagram. And if I’m honest, I always find the bed way too tempting to have a mid-afternoon nap in. I like to work in the kitchen, but if that area is often messy for you, find a quiet space in the house that is free from clutter where you can work quietly and effectively.

Outfit Details

If I could rave about the perfect pair of straight-leg pants ever… it would be these beauties from Everlane. I’m a sucker for a good pair of straight-leg jeans in the most versatile off-white colour and these did not disappoint. Best part?? They come in not only SHORT length, but also regular and long! No tailoring needed here at all… and they’re great for workday or weekend. Kept the whole look fresh by keeping it all monochromatic and adding the soft tan bag as an accent.

DAY 6 – SATURDAY

Don’t forget your hobbies.

Yay it’s the weekend! If you took a midweek break, this might be time to catch up on work. However, don’t forget to squeeze in some time for hobbies also. I know for a lot of people outdoor hobbies will have to be scrapped, but perhaps get into a good book, paint, learn an instrument. There are so many great hobbies you can pick up whilst staying in the comfort of your own home.

Outfit Details

Nothing really says bookworm like this puff sleeve silk shirt. I love the colour and its vintage vibes… but also the beautiful pudding-yellow colour of the shirt. I love that it’s muted which in my opinion allows the yellow colour to remain timeless and not trendy. I’ve teamed it with these sandstone straight leg jeans and the comfiest flats you will honestly find.

DAY 7 – SUNDAY

Brunch in on weekends

So I’m not going to lie, a huge part of my weekends was brunching and catching up with friends. That however, was pre-corona virus. This new normal means that brunch might be an indoor thing with your family (or via skype with friends). I know I have a few non-australians who read my blog, so you may not actually know what I mean by “brunch”. Basically, brunch is the very Australian thing of having breakfast/lunch out at a cafe between 9-11:30am. There is a huge brunch culture here.

However just because you can’t go out for brunch, does not mean you can’t brunch full stop! I’ve taken this as an opportunity to learn how to poach some eggs! And let me tell you, it’s completely revolutionised my weekends! Now I can have poached eggs + avocado mash any time I want! But why stop there… go ahead and make some zucchini and corn fritters, or some blueberry pancakes. You deserve it!

Outfit

This chore jacket is great for weekend casual wear. Its light, but comfortable, and looks great with shorts or pants. I’ve paired them with the ever so comfortable perform leggings, and merino crew for that “lounge wear” but can leave the house look. (Even if you’re just leaving the house to buy ingredients for your brunch cook up! haha)
